No Tihar celebration today

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Calendar Determination Development Committee has announced that there will be no Tihar celebration today, despite it being Aunsi according to the lunar calendar.

In a press statement, the Committee clarified that Laxmi Puja was performed on Thursday evening, while Gai Puja, scheduled for Kartik Shukla Pratipada, will take place on Saturday.

Prof. Shree Krishna Adhikari, Chairman of the Committee, explained that such variations in the calendar (Tithi) occur periodically.

This year, the five-day Tihar festival is being extended to six days due to this shift.

The festival, which began on Kartik Krishna Trayodashi, commenced on Tuesday.

Tihar will conclude this year on Sunday, November 3, following the Bhaitika celebration on Kartik Shukla Duitiya according to the lunar calendar.
