KATHMANDU: Amid concerns about the potential closure of advance Dashain ticket bookings, it has been confirmed that tickets will remain available for travelers.
On Tuesday morning, there was a sudden discussion in Kathmandu – after rumors spread that advance bookings might be halted. This raised worries among those planning to travel for the festival.
It was natural for people to wonder if they would not be able to go home on Dashain when the leaders of the transport entrepreneurs federation announced this.
However, a meeting was held under the leadership of the Director General of the Department of Transport Management, which included transport professionals, traffic police officials, and representatives of transport workers’ unions. Though there were initial disagreements, the decision was made to keep the booking system open.
Bhim Jwala Rai, general secretary of the Free Transport Workers’ Organisation confirmed that advance bookings will not be canceled. However, authorities are urging people to avoid unnecessary travel. Priority will be given to those who have already booked tickets.
Before the meeting, discussions were also held with Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Devendra Dahal. The minister assured that the government is working to ensure smooth traffic flow during the Dashain festival.
Additionally, the meeting reached an agreement to request the Ministry of Home Affairs for immediate rescue and relief support for transport workers and businesses affected by road blockages due to rain and landslides.
While advance bookings will continue, there is still uncertainty regarding the opening of the BP Highway. Travelers are advised to celebrate Dashain in Kathmandu if possible, rather than attempting to leave the valley.
Key decisions from the meeting include:
1. Priority will be given to passengers with advance bookings.
2. Travelers are advised to avoid unnecessary travel.
3. The Ministry of Home Affairs will be requested to assist those stranded by road blockages.
4. Alternative routes will be identified to manage traffic.
5. Priority routes for large and small vehicles will be established.
6. Public vehicles will be required to carry emergency supplies, such as first aid and drinking water.
7. Rescue and relief operations will be organized for transport workers affected by weather-related road closures.
8. Authorities will coordinate efforts to clear blocked roads and ensure safe travel.
9. Travelers are urged to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary risks.
10. Focus will be placed on ensuring traffic operates smoothly during the Dashain period.
