Let’s prioritize worker rights and interests: PM Dahal

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ emphasized that achieving social justice and prosperity hinges upon securing the rights and interests of the working class. Speaking at a program organized by the Joint Trade Union Coordination Centre (JTUCC) on the occasion of the 135th International Workers’ Day, Prime Minister Dahal stressed the collective responsibility of all stakeholders in safeguarding these rights. “Efforts from all sides are imperative to ensure the rights and interests of workers,” he emphasized, noting that the Constitution already guarantees these rights. “Implementing these constitutional provisions is our foremost obligation.”

Nepal has announced its 15-member squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The team includes Sagar Dhakal and Kamal Singh Airee, who have secured their places. Akash Chand and Bivek Yadav, who had been part of national squad during the team’s India visit are left out. Captain Rohit Paudel along with Aasif Sheikh, Anil Kumar Sah, Kushal Bhurtel, and Sandeep Jora are included as batsmen.

Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, Chairman of the Nepal Samajbadi Party (NSP) and former Prime Minister, has leveled accusations against Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, alleging his relentless pursuit of power. Speaking at a meeting at Kathmandu’s Shanti Batika on Wednesday, commemorating the 135th International Workers’ Day, the NSP Chair vented his frustration towards Prime Minister Dahal. “Principles and ideologies seem to hold no sway. Power shifts between alliances, be it with the Nepali Congress or the CPN-UML,” remarked Bhattarai. “For him, power appears to be the ultimate pursuit, regardless of the means.”

Finance Minister Pun asserts 4.5 percent economic growth potential

Finance Minister Barsha Man Pun has claimed that country’s economy was coming out from a slowdown. Positive indicators are seen in the national economy, he said, expressing confidence on achieving 4.5 percent economic growth. Finance Minister Pun viewed it while addressing a workshop on ‘financial policy for sustainable development’ here today. It is worth noting that the National Statistics Office on Tuesday had projected economic growth to stand at 3.54 percent.

Nepal loses to West Indies A by 76 runs

In the third T20 match, Nepal faced a defeat against West Indies A by 76 runs. With this, West Indies A has taken a 2-1 lead in the five-match series. Nepal was left chasing a target of 228 runs set by West Indies A in 19.2 overs, managing to score only 151 runs before being all out. Lokesh Bam top-scored for Nepal with 28 runs, including one boundary and two sixes.

Gold price down by Rs 2,700 per tola today

Gold price decreased by Rs 2,700 per tola in the domestic market today. As reported by the Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the price of fine gold has been fixed at Rs 134,500 per tola, while standard gold is currently traded at Rs 133,850 per tola. The price of fine gold was Rs 137,200 per tola, while standard gold was traded at Rs 136,550 per tola on Tuesday.
