DAILEKH: Five containers carrying equipment for petroleum exploration have arrived in Dailekh, marking a significant development in the quest to explore petroleum products in the region.

These containers, dispatched from China, made their way to Dailekh via Kolkata and the Rupaidiya point.

Their arrival signals the commencement of the first phase of exploration activities in the area.

Efforts are now underway to facilitate round-the-clock exploration work, utilizing the equipment that has arrived.

However, logistical challenges have been encountered, particularly with larger containers en route from China, as they face obstacles navigating narrow turning points along the Karnali and Mid-Hill Highways.

Despite these challenges, approximately 150 containers have departed from the Rupaidiya Point in India, destined for Dailekh, carrying essential exploration tools.

The process of setting up the equipment that has already arrived is currently underway, with close supervision by Chief District Officer Khimraj Bhusal.

Chief Bhusal has affirmed that exploration efforts are being accelerated to maximize efficiency.

Additionally, steps are being taken to address the demands of local residents, including providing employment opportunities and financial assistance to affected households.

Bhairabi Rural Municipality’s Chief Administration Officer, Bhupendra Thapa, emphasized the locals’ demand for the processing of petroleum products to occur within the district itself.

The project is being executed under a Government-to-Government (G2G) agreement between Nepal and China.

Kul Bahadur Gurung, President of the Dailekh Chamber of Commerce and Industry, expressed optimism about the project’s potential to contribute to Nepal’s prosperity if successful.

The exploration will involve drilling up to four kilometers beneath the earth’s surface.

Project Chief Dinesh Kumar Napit highlighted that this drilling process aims to assess the quantity of petroleum products and gas storage, paving the way for subsequent phases of exploration and development.
