Nepali Congress unveils selection criteria for NA Elections, prioritizing overlooked leaders



KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) has taken a significant step towards inclusivity in the upcoming National Assembly elections by introducing specific criteria for candidate selection.

Deputy General Secretary Bishma Raj Angdembe revealed that the party is committed to providing opportunities to long-serving but overlooked leaders, aiming for a fresh representation in the National Assembly.

Angdembe highlighted that the selection process will also prioritize specific communities and geographic regions, emphasizing a commitment to better inclusion. “This time, people will witness the emergence of new faces from the Nepali Congress in the National Assembly,” he affirmed.

Party President Sher Bahadur Deuba, expressing a proactive stance, is inclined to offer opportunities to fresh talents, as stated by Deputy General Secretary Maha Laxmi Upadaya.

The recent conclusion of the Central Committee Meeting marked a pivotal moment for the party. During the meeting, comprehensive criteria were established for the selection of candidates, setting the stage for a more inclusive representation.

Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Poudel reported that the party has already received recommendations for approximately 600 candidates from all seven provinces, indicating a broad and diverse pool of potential nominees.
