Nepal is a promoter of peace, champion of multilateralism: Guterres

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres lauded Nepal as a dedicated promoter of peace and a stalwart of multilateralism. Addressing a joint session of the Federal Parliament in Kathmandu on Tuesday, he expressed his enduring admiration for Nepal’s rich culture, civilization, and warm hospitality during his second visit to the country.

UN Chief Guterres urges global unity for peace from Lumbini

Speaking from the birthplace of Buddha in Lumbini in Nepal, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, made a passionate appeal to end the ongoing conflicts across the globe. Guterres emphasized, “I call from Lumbini to put an end to the conflicts raging across the world.” “Peace and humanity are non-negotiable imperatives. We cannot allow humanity to perish. The message of Buddha, the principles of Panchsheel, and the mission of the United Nations are profoundly aligned,” he said.

Peace founded on inclusion, empowerment, and justice will last longer: PM

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda has said that the government is currently engaged in concluding the remaining task of the peace process — the Transitional Justice (TJ) system. “Our ultimate aim is to ensure lasting peace and harmony in the country,” Prime Minister Dahal said at a program in Lumbini in the presence of United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Tuesday. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres visited Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha on Tuesday.

FM Saud holds talks with US Secretary of State Blinken

Nepal’s Minister for Foreign Affairs NP Saud, who is currently on a visit to the US, held talks with US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken in Washington DC. According to the Nepali Embassy in the US, the discussions during the meeting encompassed various crucial aspects, including bilateral relations, and regional and international issues. During the meeting, Minister Saud highlighted key areas of interest such as trade and investment, agriculture, food security, and the advancement of technology for Nepal’s overall development.

ADB agrees to provide Rs 13 billion concessional loan to Nepal

The government and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) today signed a concessional loan agreement for the implementation of Rural Connectivity Project-Additional Financing. The agreement involves a loan amounting to USD 100 million, which is equivalent to around Rs 13 billion.

UN Secretary-General pledges support for mitigating climate change impact in Nepal

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who is presently on a four-day official visit to Nepal, has pledged support for mitigating the impact of climate change in Nepal. Guterres who arrived at the Annapurna Base Camp this morning acknowledged that climate change caused by development and industrial nations has adverse implications in Nepal which has no significant role in causing it.

Gold price down by Rs 500 today

Gold price decreased by Rs 500 per tola in the Nepali market today. According to the Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the price of fine gold has been fixed at Rs 116,000 per tola and standard gold is traded at Rs 115,450 per tola. The precious yellow metal was valued at Rs. 116,500 per tola, and standard gold at Rs. 115,950 per tola on Monday.

Kathmandu Traffic Police takes action against 1,502 drivers in last 24 hours

Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office has ramped up efforts to curb traffic rule violations. It has intensified its action against drivers violating the rules, aiming to reduce the risk of road accidents. Special police teams have been mobilized across all three districts of Kathmandu Valley (Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur) to enforce traffic regulations and ensure road safety.

UN Secretary-General visits Annapurna Base Camp

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who is currently in Nepal on a four-day official visit, visited Annapurna Base Camp on Tuesday morning. He flew to Annapurna Base Camp on a Nepali Army helicopter. The UN high dignitary held talks with the locals on the impact of climate change in the Himalayan region, the condition of the mountains among other topics upon reaching the Base Camp.
