UN Secretary-General lauds Nepal’s homegrown practices for peace establishment
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who is presently on a four-day official trip to Nepal beginning on Sunday, has said the world should learn a lesson from Nepal’s homegrown practices for the establishment of peace. In his address to a welcome program organized in his honor at the Pulchowk-based UN Building in Lalitpur today, Guterres said the world should take a lesson from Nepal’s homegrown practices for establishing peace, efforts to conclude the transitional justice and its contribution to the UN peacekeeping operations.
ICC T-20 World Cup Qualifier: Nepal wins Singapore by 8 wickets
Nepal has won Singapore by 8 wickets in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 Asia Qualifier played at the Tribhuvan University (TU) Ground in Kirtipur today. In a stellar opening match, Nepal secured an impressive 8-wicket triumph over Singapore. Chasing Singapore’s 146-run target, Nepal reached the goal in just 16.3 overs, having lost only 2 wickets.
Emir of Qatar postpones Nepal
The planned visit of Qatar’s Emir Sheikh bin Hamad Al Thani, initially scheduled for November 6 and 7, has been postponed. Qatar’s head of state has chosen to postpone his two-day trip to Nepal, citing escalating tensions in Israel, as confirmed by sources within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Hetauda Cement Industry ceases production for shortage of coal
Hetauda Cement Industry has suspended production from today as it could not buy coal in time due to financial crunch. The industry consumes 3,600 metric tonnes coal per month. Industry General Manager Basanta Raj Pandey said the industry was in operation before the start of the Dashain festival holiday and had produced 300,000 sacks of cement during that period.
Gold price down by Rs 500 today
Gold price decreased by Rs 500 per tola in the Nepali market today. According to the Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the price of fine gold has been fixed at Rs 116,500 per tola and standard gold is traded at Rs 115,950 per tola. The precious yellow metal was valued at Rs. 117,000 per tola, and standard gold at Rs. 116,450 per tola on Sunday.
Police Headquarters instructs 22 policemen absent since August to contact within 7 days
The Police Headquarters has issued a directive for 22 police personnel who have been voluntarily absent, including police assistant inspectors, constables, assistant constables, and jawans. They have been asked to promptly get in touch within 7 days and provide a satisfactory explanation. Despite extensive efforts to reach out and multiple notices, the officers have not responded.
Bagmati govt files writ against federal govt
The Bagmati Province government has taken legal action by filing a writ in the Supreme Court against the federal government. Laxman Lamsal, the Minister of Labor, Employment, and Transport for the Province, submitted the writ against six agencies, including the Office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers.
