KATHMANDU: United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is visiting Pokhara today as part of his four-day official trip to Nepal.
He arrived in Kathmandu on Sunday and will continue his visit in Pokhara.
According to Basudev Ghimire, the Chief District Officer of Kaski, they are preparing to welcome Secretary-General Guterres in Pokhara on Monday afternoon.
As per the visit itinerary, he will visit the Annapurna Base Camp on Monday morning. Security measures in the district have been heightened in view of the Secretary-General’s visit.
This marks Guterres’ first visit to Nepal since assuming office in 2017.
On Sunday afternoon, he engaged in a series of discussions on issues concerning Nepal’s ongoing peace process, sustainable development goals, and climate change.
The visit by the UN Secretary-General to Nepal after around 15 years has been considered highly significant.
Dhanraj Acharya, the mayor of Pokhara metropolis, expressed his delight at the forthcoming visit of the UN Secretary-General to the town. “We are eagerly looking forward to welcoming him to Pokhara,” he said.
