KATHMANDU: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CIB) has sent Senior Superintendent of Police, Dinesh Acharya, to Hong Kong, to initiate a comprehensive inquiry into a high-profile gold smuggling case.
SSP Acharya commenced his journey to Hong Kong late yesterday evening, with the primary objective of delving into the intricate details surrounding the illegal transportation of 60 kg of gold into Nepal.
The contraband was cunningly concealed within the brake shoes of a scooter, marking a sophisticated method of smuggling.
It has come to light that SSP Acharya will collaborate closely with Interpol in Hong Kong, leveraging their expertise and resources to facilitate a seamless investigation process.
As of now, a total of 23 individuals, including seven Chinese nationals, have been apprehended in connection with this wide-reaching case.
Preliminary findings from ongoing inquiries indicate that the syndicate orchestrates the movement of gold into India by exploiting Nepal as a transit point.
