UML-led government in Koshi Province toppled as CM Karki fails to secure vote of confidence

BIRATNAGAR: Chief Minister of Koshi Province, Hikmat Kumar Karki, was unable to obtain a vote of confidence from the State Assembly on Friday.

The State Assembly rejected Chief Minister Karki’s proposal for a vote of confidence.

To achieve a majority in the 93-member State Assembly, he needed 47 votes.

However, only 46 votes were cast in favor of Chief Minister Karki, with 40 coming from UML and 6 from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party.

Today’s meeting had 89 state assembly members in attendance.

As a result, the process of forming a new government will commence in Koshi Province.
