MPs can only recommend projects in CDF – Finance Minister Mahat

KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat has made it clear that the lawmakers can not misappropriate the fund allotted to them under Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and they have to provide it to the recommended projects in the constituency.

Speaking at a program organized to review the budget, the Finance Minister tried to defend the revival of the headings after two years.

“The lawmakers can not use the money under CDF, they have to use it only in the recommended projects,” Dr. Mahat said, adding, “The fund is revived after two years so that the program could reach all places.”

This time, the government has allocated a budget of 8 billion rupees at the rate of 50 million in each constituency.

The amount of this program, which was started with two hundred thousand rupees, was increased to 60 million rupees to each lawmaker.
