NA lawmakers call for resolving loan shark victims’ problems

KATHMANDU: Lawmakers have demanded resolution of problems facing victims of loan sharking and action against the perpetrators.

Taking the special time during the meeting of the National Assembly today, Maya Prasad Sharma said loan sharking locally known as ‘meter byaji’ has remained as a remnant of feudalism, and the problem should be addressed legally and practically.

He demanded that the government should take action against the perpetrators.

He also called for the conservation of books and other important documents in the Keshar Library.

Kamala Panta demanded the establishment of fertilizer industries within the country so as to increase domestic production.

Sharada Devi Bhattarai expressed her concerns about the displacement of the victims of loan sharking who reached Kathmandu, the federal capital, all the way from the Tarai, seeking the government’s support, from the Khulla Manch (open theatre).

She expressed her condolences to the person who was killed in protect against the naming of Province 1 as ‘Koshi Province’ and wished speedy recovery to those injured.

Similarly, Jayanti Devi Rai drew the attention of the government to seriously take the issue of the victims of loan sharking and seek ways to resolve their problems through a dialogue.

Nanda Chapai said political parties should seriously take people’s aspiration for development activities.

Dr Bimala Rai Paudyal stressed the need for giving justice to the victims of loan sharking by amending the existing laws.

Durga Kumari Gurung called for concluding the peace process by resolving problems of conflict victims.

Stating that the Supreme Court has for long remained without its head, Sonam Gyaljen Sherpa demanded an appointment of Chief Justice at the earliest.
