KATHMANDU: A writ petition challenging the educational qualifications of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari is scheduled for a hearing in the Supreme Court on Friday.
Advocates Deepak Raj Joshi, Pratap Singh Thakurathi, Damodar Timsina, and Chudamani Bhandari filed the writ on Thursday, raising concerns about the governor’s compliance with the educational requirements outlined in Section 20 of the Nepal Rastra Bank Act 2058 BS.
According to the Act, a master’s degree is the minimum educational qualification for the governor.
The petitioner argues that the current educational qualifications of the governor fall below the mandated standards. In addition, the writ seeks the annulment of Adhikari’s appointment, citing inadequate qualifications for the position.
Governor Adhikari assumed office on April 6, 2020, following his appointment by the government.
