Nepali peacekeeper injured in Israel-Lebanon border area

KATHMANDU: A Nepali soldier, serving in the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Lebanon, sustained injuries in southern Lebanon near the border with Israel.

Brigadier General Krishna Prasad Bhandari, the military spokesperson, reported that a Nepali peacekeeper suffered minor injuries when a mortar shell possibly landed on October 28 at 10:20 pm local time.

According to Bhandari, the mortar shell fell in the vicinity of United Nations peacekeepers in Lebanon. The identity and location of the injured peacekeeper have not been disclosed.

Bhandari stated that the injured peacekeeper is currently receiving medical treatment at a local hospital.

In this region, Hezbollah is active. The Shia Islamist political party and paramilitary organization, supported by both Iran and Israel, have launched rockets multiple times since October 7.

Western countries, including the United States, have advised their citizens to depart the area due to the potential for escalating tensions.
