Dead body found in Madi River



TANAHU: A dead body was found in Madi River at Byas Municipality-10 in Tanahu district today.

Identification of the dead body that was floating on the riverbank is yet to be ascertained, said District Police Office, Tanahu.

Locals had notified the police after spotting the dead body which is estimated to belong to a man in his 50s.

The lifeless body has been brought to Damauli for postmortem, police said.

Meanwhile, district police arrested a middle-aged man on the charges of fraud.

Police held Mednath Giri, also known as Mahesh Giri, 50, of Jhodiya in Basgadhi Municipality of Bardiya district and currently residing at Amreni of Byas Municipality-1 in Tanahu district.

DSP Mohan Bahadur Khand shared that the alleged man had duped a local lady and had fleeced Rs 750,000 from her, promising to arrange a subsidized loan from a financial institution.

The fraudster had been absconding thereafter. The victim lady had filed a complaint at the District Police Office in Poush 2078 BS.

The District Court, Tanahu has remanded the alleged Giri to seven-day custody while police are looking into the case.
