NC General Secy Thapa lambasts Resham Chaudhary’s amnesty

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has criticized the government’s amnesty to Nagarik Unmukti Party patron Reshammalal Chaudhary.

Addressing the regional conference of NC Lalitpur 2, leader Thapa compared the amnesty with the one granted under autocratic monarchial system and said that such decisions are against the spirit of republic state.

“This is not the rule of a king. There is whimsical rule here, this is a republic. Everything should abide by law to ensure the rule of law prevails,” he said, adding, “It is unfortunate to make mockery of rule of law just to prolong the days in power.”

Leader Thapa also said that he obeyed the court’s order.

On the occasion of Republic Day, President Ramchandra Poudel received amnesty to murder accused Chaudhary.

On the occasion of Republic Day, President Paudel granted amnesty to 501 people.

Resham was released from jail this morning.

He was convicted in the Tikapur murder case by all three tiers of courts, and was spending his life in prison.
