Schools in upper Mugu shut down for a month due to severe cold

MUGU: The Mugum Karmarong rural municipality in Mugu has taken the decision to temporarily close schools in the Upper Karan area for a month due to the intensifying cold weather.

Chhiring Kyapne Lama, the Chair of the rural municipality, announced the month-long winter vacation beginning in the last week of December for schools in approximately a dozen highland settlements, including Serog, Dolfu, Takha, Khari, Kartik Kimri, Chitai, Mugu, Pua, and Daura.

The vacation is scheduled to conclude on January 29.

Explaining the decision, the local representative stated, “The temperature in the upper part of Mugu is dropping significantly, and we have chosen to close the schools to ensure the safety and well-being of students amid the biting cold.” It is anticipated that the severe cold will impact development activities and various government services in the region for the next month.

In response to the chilling conditions, residents of the upper settlements have started moving downhill to seek relief from the cold weather.
