KATHMANDU: A writ has been filed in the Supreme Court (SC) challenging the educational credentials of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari.

Advocates Deepak Raj Joshi, Pratap Singh Thakurathi, Damodar Timsina, and Chudamani Bhandari registered the writ on Thursday.

The scheduled hearing for the writ, targeting the Council of Ministers and the Office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers, is set for this Friday.

According to Section 20 of the Nepal Rastra Bank Act 2058 BS, the minimum educational qualification for the governor is specified as a master’s degree.

However, the petitioner asserts that the current educational qualification of the governor’s officer falls short of the mandated standards.

Furthermore, the writ demands the cancellation of the appointment, contending that the officer is inadequately qualified for the position.

It should be noted that Adhikari was appointed as the Governor by the government on April 6, 2020.
