Nepali Congress decides to hold Mahasamiti meeting in November

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) has initiated preparation to hold its Mahasamiti meeting in November.

The party has decided to hold its Mahasamiti meeting on November 29, 30 and December 1 in a bid to establish the party’s future policies.

The organizing committee, chaired by NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, has been tasked with orchestrating this event.

This committee is comprised of central officials, central members, province presidents, district presidents from Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur, as well as leaders of affiliated organizations.

It should be noted that the party’s 14th general convention had endorsed its statute and elected Deuba as the party President.

The convention also elected 134 central committee members. The NC, currently, consists of 168 central committee members.

Deuba, in line with the inclusive principle, nominated 31 out of 33 central members, with Shekhar Koirala automatically becoming a central member after his defeat in the party presidential race.

Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Paudel stated that the Central Committee meeting held in July, decided to hold the Mahasamiti meeting in November.

This decision aligns with the legal provision that allows the Mahasamiti to address various party policies without necessitating a separate policy convention.

Meanwhile, NC General Secretary Gagan Thapa is slated to present the organizational report to the Mahasamiti meeting, while another General Secretary Bishwaprakash Sharma, will present contemporary political proposals.

Although there were suggestions to hold the Mahasamiti meeting outside Kathmandu, the party has already confirmed that the meeting will take place in the capital.
