KATHMANDU: Indrajit Rai, allegedly one of the key members of the gang behind the fake Bhutanese Refugee-related corruption, returned to police custody without giving a statement on Sunday.

According to Kathmandu District Court sources, Rai was brought to the Court for a statement, but he deterred it showing health issues.

He spent the whole day in the courtroom sometimes reading newspapers and next time discussing with his lawyer.

“First Rai said he would give statement after tea-break; however, he deterred it afterward,” the sources narrated, adding, ” Earlier he promised before judge Prem Prasad Neupane to be ready for the statement for today.

After Rai’s promise to be ready after tea-break, the judge started to take the statements of the other defendants, Tank Kumar Gurung and Sandeep Rayamajhi.

However, even after the tea break, Rai was not ready to give a statement.
When Rai showed his unwillingness to the statement, the Court took the statement of another defendant, Lakshmi Maharjan.

Again after the court time, when the judge asked Rai what he was there for, Rai replied that he came for the statement as a healthy man; however, his health got worsened after reaching the court.

According to the police, Rai refused to give a statement on the assigned dates and got it scheduled quite often.
