KOHALPUR: Efforts of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sundar Tiwari turned perilous when he was stabbed during a daring rescue mission in Banke’s area police office.

DSP Tiwari sustained an injury to his right elbow after being attacked with a knife by Kushal Thapa of Deepnagar, who had threatened to kill his 20-day-old infant son while holding him hostage.

According to Narayan Dangi, the spokesperson of the district police office, Thapa’s behavior prompted the intervention of the police force.

Despite repeated attempts to reason with Thapa from outside the residence, DSP Tiwari was unexpectedly targeted and injured by the assailant’s knife throw.

“DSP Tiwari’s unwavering efforts to negotiate with Thapa were met with aggression, leading to the unfortunate stabbing incident,” said Police Spokesperson Dangi, highlighting the gravity of the situation.

Following the assault, the police intervened, forcibly entering the premises and successfully apprehending Thapa.

The distressing incident unfolded late last night when Thapa’s family and relatives alerted the authorities about his erratic behavior, prompting the courageous response of the law enforcement team.

Offering insight into Thapa’s mental state, Police Spokesperson Dangi attributed the shocking events to Thapa’s purported unstable mental equilibrium.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by police officers in safeguarding communities, often risking their own safety in the line of duty.
