SC annuls appointment of Uddhav Thapa as Koshi Province

The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday ordered the formation of a new government in Koshi Province. It has annulled the appointment of Uddhav Thapa as the Chief Minister of Koshi Province. A full bench of Justices Ishwor Prasad Khatiwada, Ananda Mohan Bhattarai and Til Prasad Shrestha quashed the appointment of Chief Minister Thapa.

RID raids Chinese national’s residence in Lazimpat in connection with gold smuggling case

The Revenue Investigation Department (RID) conducted a raid on a house rented by a Chinese citizen in Lazimpat as part of an ongoing gold smuggling investigation. A team from the RID searched the residence of Chinese national Jeyung Lyn, who was apprehended at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA).

CPN-UML demands fair investigation into gold smuggling scam

The main opposition party, CPN-UML, has demanded a thorough and transparent investigation into the recent gold smuggling case at Tribhuvan International Airport in Nepal. During today’s National Assembly meeting, UML lawmaker Devendra Dahal urged the government to form a high-level probe committee comprising representatives from various political parties.

NA passes Bill to Amend Some Nepal Acts Related to Civil Code

Today’s second meeting of the National Assembly has passed the Bill to Amend Some Nepal Acts Related to Civil Code, 2080. The Bill was brought with a purpose of taking action against those involved in usury by addressing the problems of victims. The NA passed the bill again accepting the amendment to the bill related to usury send by the House of Representatives with amendment and message.

Coordination among govt agencies vital to curb illegal customs transactions: Finance Minister Mahat

Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat, the Finance Minister, has stressed the importance of coordination among all government agencies to effectively prevent illegal transactions and smuggling through Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). During an on-site inspection of TIA, Minister Mahat addressed reporters, highlighting the need for seamless cooperation between the Revenue Investigation Department, Customs Department, District Police, Armed Police, Nepali Army, and Civil Aviation Authority at the airport to minimize smuggling and criminal activities.

Floods, landslides disrupt Mid-Hill Highway

Mid-hill Highway has been disrupted at Nisikhola-Rukumkot section in Baglung due to incessant rains for the past few days. Floods at Dharamshala, near border of Nisiikhola rural municipality 4 and 5 and at Khadukhola of Kalapaira -2, have disrupted the Highway since last night.

Tokha Municipality removes illegal structures

Physical structures remaining on encroached public land in the Tokha municipality of Kathmandu have been demolished by the local authority. The local government has launched a drive to demolish structures built unlawfully on public areas.

One arrested over NBM looting

An Indian national charged of involvement in a bank robbery has been arrested. Ajay Kumar Safi, 20, of Bihar was allegedly part of a group that on May 30 looted the NMB Bank based in Mahottari rural municipality-2 in Mahottari and made away with Rs 1.5 million.

Rasuwagadhi witnesses surge in people’s activities

Lately people’s activities have increased at Rasuwagadi, the northern point along the Nepal-China border in Rasuwa.The checkpoint, which was closed due to COVID-19 pandemic, resumed its operations on April 1. Since then, there has been a rise in trade and touristic activities in the area.

Nepali Congress holding next central committee meeting on Sept 19
