One arrested over NBM looting, search for others intensified



JALESWOR: An Indian national charged with involvement in a bank robbery has been arrested.

Ajay Kumar Safi, 20, of Bihar, was allegedly part of a group that on May 30 looted the NMB Bank based in Mahottari rural municipality-2 in Mahottari and made away with Rs 1.5 million.

He was apprehended last evening from the Nepal-India border at Matihani-8, confirmed Deputy Superintendent of Police Dilip Kumar Giri, the spokesperson for the District Police Office in Mahottari.

A masked gang of four to five who arrived on theft motorcycles looted the bank by taking bank employees and customers captive.

Since the day the crime took place, police have been searching for the gang with the help of human Nepal Police specialized agency, trans-national coordination and technology.

Furthermore, police have identified the other accused in the crime and are intensely searching for them.

Police hope that they will be arrested soon, police inspector Prakash Malla said.
