Bhatbhateni Supermarket owner Gurung among five arrested in Lalita land grab scam

KATHMANDU: The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police arrested five individuals, among them Min Bahadur Gurung, the owner of Bhatbhateni Super Market, in relation to the Baluwatar Lalita Niwas land scam.

Gurung was taken into custody from his residence in Naxal.

The CIB has reopened the investigation into the irregularities surrounding the Lalita Niwas land grab case, which had been suspended for a year and a half due to the intervention of the Attorney General.

Gurung had previously been accused of wrongfully transferring government land into his name.

In February 2021, the Special Court had ordered him to post bail worth Rs 20 million.

Currently, the CIB is conducting an inquiry into the fraudulent charges against Gurung.

According to sources, the police have also detained four other individuals: Kaladhar Deuja, Surendra Man Kapali, Dharma Prasad Gautam, and Bhupendra Mani KC.

Deuja previously served as the head of Dillibazar Land Revenue Office.
