Distribution of money to ex-combatants unacceptable: Dr. Shekhar Koirala

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala said that distributing money from the state coffers in the name of former disqualified combatants would be unacceptable.

Koirala, on Thursday, took to social media to express his opinion, stating that it is inappropriate to distribute funds in the name of ex-combatants, especially during a time when the government is struggling to pay salaries to its employees and pensions to retired teachers.

He firmly stated that the decision to allocate funds to former Maoist combatants would be unacceptable under any circumstances, particularly since the Maoists have failed to provide an account of the funds allocated for the fighters in the cantonment in the past.

Recently, during a cabinet meeting, a decision was made to endorse the procedure to provide a relief payment of Rs. two lahks to disqualified combatants.
