NC recommends names to National Assembly for Jan 25 elections

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) Koshi State Committee has finalized its recommendations for the upcoming National Assembly (NA) elections scheduled for January 25, 2024.

A meeting held at the Koshi Province office in Biratnagar identified and proposed the names of its candidates to contest in the elections.

To streamline the selection process, the Nepali Congress has recommended candidates from various districts to the Central Working Committee.

Following instructions from the NC Central Committee, the Provincial Working Committee assessed the candidates’ credentials and submitted the recommended names by the specified deadline of December 26.

NC leader Bhupendra Rai stated that the Provincial Working Committee considered factors such as rank and standing while finalizing the list of candidates.

Among the recommendations, the Committee has proposed Krishna Prasad Sitaula from Jhapa and Sujata Koirala from Morang.

However, it’s worth noting that both leaders faced defeats in the November 2079 elections, with Sitaula losing to Rajendra Lingden in Jhapa 3 and Sujata falling short against Rishikesh Pokharel of UML in Morang 3.

The recommended list includes figures such as Mahesh Acharya, Dr. Minendra Rizal, Gururaj Ghimire, Umesh Jung Rayamazhi, Taraman Gurung, Tanka Rai, Giriraj Acharya, Dr. Dila Sangraula, and Rukmini Koirala.

NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba is advocating for the inclusion of Krishna Prasad Sitaula in the National Assembly, citing Sitaula’s support during the 14th General Convention of the party.

Additionally, the faction led by Dr. Shekhar Koirala, is pushing for Dr. Minendra Rizal as one of the candidates.
