Indra Jatra festival commences with ‘Indradhwojotthan’ ceremony

KATHMANDU: The Indra Jatra festival commenced with the ceremonial installation of a towering wooden pole (known as ‘lingo’) in Basantapur Durbar Square’s Hanumandhoka today at precisely 10:37 am, following the guidance of the Nepal Calendar Determination Development Committee.

This auspicious moment is traditionally marked as ‘Indradhwojotthan.’ The lingo, transported from Bhaktapur, was raised at Hanumandhoka under the supervision of Sandeep Khanal, Chief of the Hanumandhoka Durbar Management and Conservation Office.

The erection of the lingo in its upright position heralded the official beginning of the Indra Jatra festival in Hanumandhoka, which will be celebrated with fervor and enthusiasm over the coming week.

On September 28, President Ramchandra Paudel, alongside several other dignitaries, is slated to visit Hanumandhoka to partake in the grand festivities of this revered festival.
