District Court orders Rs 100,000 as relief to complainant in Sandeep Lamichhane-related case

KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu District Court has ordered to pay compensation to the whistleblower Gaushala 26(name changed) in the case against cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane.

Monday’s order came after the District Court’s hearing on the application filed by Gaushala 26 for interim compensation.

Judge Prakash Prasad Pandit’s bench ordered the government to ensure Gaushala 26 gets the said amount.

Gaushala 26 filed a petition in the court with a demand to provide Rs 270,000 compensation including transportation and house rent. But the bench of Judge Pandit ordered compensation of 100 thousand rupees from the victim relief fund.

The court order in the compensation dispute has paved the way for the final verdict.

Cricketer Lamichhane has been called to show up before the authority on July 14. The date for the final verdict will be set after July 14 only.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had also ordered the District Court to give a verdict through the fast-track procedure. However, as the case of compensation is prolonged, the verdict of the main case is also deterred.

Gaushala 26 demanded compensation from Sandeep. At that time, she insisted that she should get compensation of 1 million 50 thousand rupees. She had submitted a bill of Rs 70,000 as the treatment cost at the hospital.

However, the claim of Gaushala 26 was rejected by the court. The judge rejected the demand of Gaushala 26 saying that the final judgement is likely soon.
