Govt committed to promoting human rights: PM Dahal



KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said the government is committed to respecting, protecting and promoting human rights.

In his address to a ceremony held here on the occasion of the 23rd anniversary of the National Human Rights Commission on Friday, the head-of-the government pledged to contribute continuously to the development of a cultured society with the guarantee of human rights.

“The government is effortful to ensure effective enforcement of the Constitution which is adjudged unique in terms of the positions of the human rights,” the Prime Minister said, adding that implementation of the people’s fundamental rights and advancement towards the social, economic and cultural transformations in the society were the priorities of the government.

He took time to say that the government always prioritized the matter to amend the Human Rights Commission Act, keeping the Commission’s autonomy and independence intact.

The Commission has carried out the responsibilities it is expected to do as the human rights body of the nation which is a State party to the international conventions on human rights, according to the PM.

He assured of amending human rights laws in accordance with international and national recommendations.

PM Dahal shared that political consensus was forged to take the peace process to a logical conclusion soon with the determination that cases of serious violation of human rights should be addressed.

He claimed that the peace process would be concluded making the victims feel the justice and making it example in international level.
