Pokhara High Court acquits actor Paul Shah, to be released on Monday

POKHARA: Artist Purna Bikram Shah popularly known as Paul Shah, who is facing a rape case, has been acquitted by the Pokhara High Court on Sunday.

Hearing on actor Shah’s appeal against the decision of the Nawalpur District Court, the High Court ruled that the prosecution claim against Shah was not sufficient.

Earlier, Shah was acquitted by the Tanahun District Court. However, District Court Nawalpur did not acquit him.

A minor singer filed a complaint against her for raping her in a hotel in Gaindakot, Nawalpur.

Nawalpur District Court sentenced him to imprisonment for two and a half years in this case. Paul’s lawyers filed a writ in Pokhara High Court against this order. During the hearing on the same writ, the court directed to produce the accused Paul within two weeks.

Paul is currently in Tanahun jail. He has already been acquitted by Tanahun court on January 18. He was accused of raping the same minor singer in a hotel in Damauli. But he was acquitted in that case and is living in prison because of the Gaindakot hotel incident.

Although the Nawalpur court acquitted Paul of the charge of rape, it sentenced Paul to the crime of child sexual abuse.
