Maoist Center insists on consensus Presidential candidate



KATHMANDU: The ruling Maoist Center has emphasized that the President should be appointed on the basis of national consensus.

Maoist leader Devendra Poudel said that the party’s emphasis is to make the President on the basis of national consensus.

Speaking to the media after the meeting of the party’s Standing Committee on Thursday, Poudel said, “If we can forge a national consensus on a common candidate for the President, we can move forward with the common candidate.”

The Maoist Center has said that then the appointment of a consensus candidate will avert any any possible incident in the future.

The Maoist Center has also emphasized the need to appoint a consensus candidate that is agreeable to all political parties, including the CPN-UML and Nepali Congress.

The party has also decided to intensify discussion with other political forces for the same.

The meeting will continue tomorrow (Friday).
