Mobile import declines in FY 2079/80



KATHMANDU: There has been a remarkable decline in the number of mobile phones imported to Nepal in the Fiscal Year 2079/80.

According to the statistics on international trade published by the Department of Customs (DoC), there has been a decline in mobile imports by 12 billion rupees.

Mobile phones worth more than 38 billion rupees in the previous financial year 2078/79, only 26 billion rupees worth of phones were received, the department said.

According to DoC, 3,935,367 mobile phones entered Nepal in the financial year 2079/80. For this, Rs 2,6514,720,000 was spent to import the phones.
The government has collected a revenue of 4.88 billion rupees from the import of mobile phones and telephones.

Last year, Nepal imported 5,586,578 phones and telephone equipment. This cost 38.69 billion rupees for the country.

Businessmen have explained the decrease in the import of mobile phones with the economic recession and open borders.
