RSP lawmaker Dhaka Kumar Shrestha relieved from post

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra party (RSP) lawmaker Dhaka Kumar Shrestha has been formally relieved from his post on Tuesday.

Speaker Devraj Ghimire informed the House of Representatives meeting on Tuesday about the action taken against Shrestha and announced that his post has turned vacant now.

“Dhaka Kumar Shrestha, a member of the House of Representatives representing the Rastriya Swatantra Party, has been expelled from the ordinary membership of the party by the relevant parliamentary party, and according to that decision, the information with the decision that his position as a member of parliament will be vacant has been given to the Federal Parliament Secretariat in accordance with subsection 1 of section 34 of the Political Parties Act, 2073,” the speaker said on Tuesday.

Section 34 of the Act on Political Parties states that the post of lawmaker will become vacant provided the political party the lawmaker stands for.

Earlier, RSP wrote to the Federal Parliament Secretariat on April 16 and urged the latter to take action against him as per the party decision.

RSP relieved Shrestha from all responsibilities after a corruption case relating to him was released.

The Parliament Secretariat had asked RSP to offer detailed documents to verify the said action against Shrestha.

After the expulsion of Shrestha, the Parliament Secretariat will now give the information to the Election Commission and will also publish the information in the Gazette. At the Commission’s permission, RSP will pick another name for the post of lawmaker to replace Shrestha.
