SURKHET: Speakers have pointed out the need for a sustainable development and conservation policy to protect the rich bio-diversity of Karnali.

Speaking at a seminar on Designing of National Diversity Conservation Plan held in Birendranagar, Surkhet, on Friday, the participants suggested that all three levels of government should formulate a program based on the rights of the local community and only through its effective implementation conservation could be realized.

Presenting a working paper on the occasion, Hemlal Aryal from the Ministry of Forests and Environment shared about Nepal’s inclusive and effective biodiversity conservation national plan in accordance with the Biodiversity Convention Goal 3, which calls for the sustainable use of the components of biological diversity. Nepal is a state party to convention on biological diversity.

Likewise, Reader at the Midwestern University, Dr Pushparaj Acharya, said that conservation of biological diversity is necessary for all of us as it can also help economic prosperity of the country, including of Karnali. The mutual relationship between humans and wild animals must advance conservation and development to sustain the overall existence of all.

Forest and Environment Secretary of Karnali Province Mohandev Joshi said that biodiversity conservation will be carried out in collaboration with the local community.
