6th Rhino Gold Cup to kick off from January 10

NAWALPUR: The eagerly anticipated Rhino Gold Cup, boasting the highest cash prize in mofussil football championships, is scheduled to commence on January 10, 2024, at Madhyabindu in Nawalparasi (Bardghat-Susta East). The tournament not only seeks to celebrate football but also aims to raise awareness about the crucial preservation of the one-horned rhinoceros and promote internal eco-tourism simultaneously.

Organized by the Rhino Club, the soccer extravaganza is slated to conclude on February 9, offering substantial cash rewards. Rhino Club Chair, Doman Bahadur Bhandari, announced that the first-placed team will receive one million rupees, while the first-runner up team will be awarded 500 thousand rupees.

Beyond team prizes, players will vie for attractive awards in various categories, including Best Player, Highest Scorer, Best Goalkeeper, Best Defender, Best Striker, and Coach of the tournament.

A total of 12 teams, featuring departmental clubs such as Tribhuvan Army Club, Nepal Police, APF, and four provincial teams from Gandaki, Lumbini, Madhesh, and Bagamati, will compete for the prestigious title.

The estimated cost of organizing the event, which first commenced in 2070 BS, is around Rs 7 million. Madhyabindu Municipality Mayor, Bhimlal Adhikari, has pledged support for the continuity of such matches and the overall enhancement of sports within the locality.
