Nepal appeals to Qatar for release of Hamas-held citizen, Bipin Joshi

KATHMANDU: Foreign Minister NP Saud has requested Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Soltan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi, to take initiative for the release of Nepali citizen Bipin Joshi, who is under the control of Hamas.

During a meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kathmandu on Friday, Minister Saud urged the Qatari Minister to help in Joshi’s release. Joshi is from Kanchanpur.

Minister Saud’s Secretariat informed that a special request has been made to release Joshi along with a group of 50 people who are said to be held by the Palestinian militant group Hamas.

In response, Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs assured to help secure Joshi’s release as soon as possible. During the meeting, Foreign Minister Saud praised Qatar’s government for the role it played as a mediator for the ceasefire in Gaza and in securing the release of citizens held hostage by Hamas.

Earlier on Thursday, Minister Saud called the ambassador of Israel to discuss Joshi’s release. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during the meeting with the visiting State Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, discussions covered common interests such as employment, trade, investment exchange, and high-level visits.
