SC issues interim order to Koshi govt not to take decisions of long-term importance

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) has issued an interim order to the Koshi state government, instructing it not to make policy decisions with long-term importance and extensive consequences.

This order comes in response to a writ petition filed in the Supreme Court, alleging that Chief Minister Uddhav Thapa gained a vote of confidence through the manipulation of Israile Mansuri’s position as the chair of the state assembly.

Judge Ishwor Prasad Khatiwada’s bench has scheduled a hearing for the case on September 1 and has directed the submission of a written response by that date.

Additionally, the court has mandated the submission of all relevant details, including the Chief Minister’s appointment and the vote of confidence, by August 30.

Hikmat Karki, leader of the CPN-UML parliamentary party, brought the matter before the Supreme Court, contending that Speaker Mansuri’s vote was exploited inappropriately and lacked constitutional legitimacy.
