Lalita Niwas Case: CIB recommends 286 defendants, including Bijay Gachchdar and Min Bahadur Gurung

KATHMANDU: In connection with the Lalita Niwas land case, Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has issued recommendations to name 286 individuals as defendants.

As per the investigation report submitted by the CIB to the District Public Prosecutor’s Office in Kathmandu, Ram Kumar Subedi, Madhavi Subedi (his wife), Shobhakant Dhakal, former Election Commission Commissioner Sudhir Kumar Sah,  and the former Ward Secretary of Kathmandu-5, Shivaji Bhattarai, have been suggested to be named as defendants and have subsequently been arrested.

Additionally, the CIB has recommended including Rudra Kumar Shrestha from the Land Reforms and Administration Department, Balkrishna Shrestha (the then Senior Divisional Engineer of Urban Development and Building Construction Department), and Kaladhar Deuba (the head of the Land Port Office at that time) as defendants.

Furthermore, the CIB has called for legal action against Rabindra Man Joshi, the former Secretary of the Ministry of Land Reforms and Administration, Dinesh Hari Adhikari, the former Secretary of the Ministry of Land Reforms, and Yuvraj Bhusal.

The CIB has also suggested considering Chandradev Joshi, the then Minister of Land Reform and Law; Bijay Kumar Gachchdar, the then Minister of Physical Planning and Construction, and Sanjay Kumar Sah, the then Minister of State, as defendants.

The CIB conducted an investigation into the organized crime case involving the transfer of government land in Lalita Niwas to private individuals.

Upon concluding the investigation, the CIB has submitted its findings and recommendations to the district attorney’s office.

Currently, the District Public Prosecutor’s Office is reviewing the report provided by the CIB.
