CHITWAN: A zoo is to be constructed alongside the under-construction Wildlife Rescue Centre at Devnagar of Bharatpur.

The zoo is to be developed to show the tiger and other wild animals to the visitors on the occasion of the Bharatpur Visit Year.

The Bharatpur Metropolitan City has brought this plan to also make some income by linking the rescued wild animals with eco-tourism.

The metropolis has requested the Chitwan National Park to make arrangements for showcasing the tiger to the tourists visiting Bharatpur on the occasion of the Visit Year.

Metropolis mayor Renu Dahal shared that the wildlife rescue centre which is under construction in Devnagar is to be developed into a zoo for keeping tiger, rhino, antelope and other wildlife.

Mayor Dahal together with a team of CNP chief conservation officer and conservation officers carried out a field study of the wildlife rescue centre and held discussions in connection with construction of the zoo at Devnagar.

“The infrastructures are being constructed and the Bharatpur Metropolitan City is ready to provide necessary support for construction of additional structures. The zoo will be opened in the metropolis coinciding with the Visit Year,” Mayor Dahal added.

Stating that only a few tourists coming to Chitwan get to see the tiger, she said they will be able to see tiger with the operation of the zoo on the occasion of the Visit Year.

According to her, the plan is to develop the zoo as an open zoo and a place for keeping the injured wild animals.

Chief conservation officer Dil Bahadur Purja Pun said some works on constructing the compound wall have been carried out at the place.
