KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ stated that future creations and research should not be limited to tradition.

Addressing an event organized on the occasion of the 66th anniversary of the Nepal Academy in Kathmandu on Saturday, PM Dahal called for cultural transformation to institutionalize the social structure and political system of Nepali society.

PM Dahal viewed that it was the foremost responsibility of the Nepal Academy to develop and promote every language spoken in Nepal as well as the literature in those languages, their cultures, and branches of knowledge in accordance with the spirit of the Constitution of Nepal.

He opined that the advanced cultural traditions, knowledge, and literary thinking created in this soil would be successful only if we move ahead by developing relevance with modern knowledge and thinking.

The Academy has been preserving the Nepali language, literature, and culture within the country for six and half decades. The Head of the Government further said that the major responsibility is to resist the globalized postmodern cultures raging towards Nepal like a tsunami and the feudalistic cultures deeply rooted in the micro strata of our society.

He asserted that the need of the hour was to build a culture that reflects the spirit of the federal republican and proportional era.

Dahal further expressed his confidence that the Academy would be successful to deliver on the creation of literature and cultures based on respect for labor, which he said, was necessary to achieve the goals of the socialism-oriented system envisaged by the Constitution. He shared that the government was positive towards the new and creative proposals put forth by the Academy’s current leadership.

“I am confident that the current leadership of the Academy would emphasize research on the unique oral history of Nepal, and preservation and promotion of native languages and creations and aesthetics of working class in Nepal,” the PM said, pledging utmost support of the government towards this.

PM Dahal expressed his joy over Academy spearheading the conduct of a multilingual poetry competition this year. The Academy has been organizing poetry competitions since 2022 BS.

He further shared his elation over the highest submission of poetries from the participation in the decade. The Academy received around three dozen of poetries penned in various local languages for the National Poetry Competition this year.

Also speaking on the occasion, Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation Sudan Kirati discussed the importance of the poetry competition and its cultural aspect and shared that his Ministry was facilitating the same.

Academy’s Chancellor Bhupal Rai shed light on the National Poetry Competition as well as the plans put in place by the Academy for the preservation and promotion of languages, literature, philosophy, culture and social sciences of the country.
