NC President Deuba proposes names of Poudel and Sitaula as presidential candidate

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) has initiated discussions to finalize the names of the candidate for the President.

Party President Sher Bahadur Deuba on Monday took the names of senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel and leader Krishna Prasad Sitaula as candidates for the President, party insiders said.

NC President Deuba on Monday held a meeting of the party’s office bearers at his Dhumbarahi-based rented residence to discuss the probable names of the President.

According to sources, Deuba insisted that NC should get the post of President at any cost.

Earlier, only Poudel was seen as an aspirant for the top ceremonial post.

In fact, Poudel was almost sure to get the post when the NC was in the government.

However, even though NC lost power, it started improving relations with the Maoist Center to get the post of President.

Therefore, it also gave a vote of confidence to Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, who is also the Chairman of the Maoist Center.
