British PM Sunak’s best wishes to ‘Gurkha Warrior’

KATHMANDU: British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has extended best wishes to the Nepali movie ‘Gurkha Warrior.

British PM Sunak, in a letter to the movie producers, said that although he could not mark his presence at the world premiere of the movie to be held on Imax Cineworld in the UK on September 10 due to his busy schedule, it was a matter of pride to make a film on the bravery of Gurkha soldiers.

“I am delighted to know about the film made about the bravery, sacrifices, and dedication of the brave Gurkha soldiers. Thank you very much for the invitation. I am unable to attend the premiere ceremony. I would like to wish success for the premier show and the movie. Thank you for the letter,” the British PM said in a reply to the letter sent by the makers of the movie.

Milan Chams, the director and producer of the movie, had sent a letter along with an invitation letter to the British PM, through the Cultural Affairs Minister of the UK some time ago.
Director Chams expressed in his conference that the discussions going on in the international market about the Nepali movies through ‘Gurkha Warrior’ would help Nepali films.

The film is based on true stories and features the story of the Gurkha soldiers who were recruited by the British Army and fought in the Malaya Jungle in 1949, according to director Chams.

Ritesh Chamling, Bijaya Lama, Rebika Gurung, Kabita (Gaumaya) Ale, and Sara Rai among others have acted in the movie that will be shown in Nepali, English, and Hindi languages, informed Chams.
