NC’s Central Committee meeting marred by accusations, frustration: Shekhar Koirala

KATHMANDU: Dr. Shekhar Koirala, a central member of the Nepali Congress, expressed his concern about the ongoing Central Committee meeting, stating that it has regrettably turned into a platform for accusations and frustration.

Speaking at the central working committee meeting of the party on Sunday, he highlighted that such activities during the meeting were not a positive sign, especially after a long time since its last convening.

“The Central Committee meeting, meant to be a platform for productive discussions, has unfortunately been marred by accusations and frustration. This is not conducive to achieving our goals and objectives,” he remarked.

Koirala urged NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba to ensure that the Congress operates in accordance with the party’s statute.

He emphasized the importance of adhering to established rules and guidelines, drawing a parallel with how the country functions through the constitution, and suggested that the party should similarly rely on its internal regulations to move forward cohesively.

“Nepali Congress is a party known for its abundance of ideas, but since the 14th national convention, we have not seen the emergence of a clear political document. As a result, there seems to be a dearth of new ideas within the party,” he observed.

In addition to this, Koirala called for an immediate meeting of the party’s Mahasamiti to address various issues and challenges facing the party.

Furthermore, he stressed the need for the Congress to discuss the formation of the Samajwadi Morcha, consisting of the Maoist Center, Unified Socialist Party, Janata Samajwadi Party, and even the Biplav faction, which are part of the ruling coalition.

The discussions on this topic were considered crucial for the party’s future approach in the political landscape.

Koirala’s concerns highlighted the importance of constructive and forward-looking discussions within the Nepali Congress to address internal matters and position the party strategically in the broader political context.
