Kathmandu cinemas resume Hindi film screening



KATHMANDU: Hindi films have been screened in the Cinemas of Kathmandu from today.

Bollywood actors Vicky Kaushal and Sara Ali Khan starrer film ‘Zara Hatke Zara Bachke’ has been screened in the halls of Kathmandu.

Nepal’s largest multiplex chain QFX and One Cinemas have brought the film to the screening.

On Thursday, the Nepal Film Association’s executive meeting on Friday decided to screen Hindi films from today.

Bhaskar Dhungana, the vice-president of the umbrella organization of the Association, Bhaskar Dhungana said that the film ‘Adi Purush will not be screened as distributors have already removed the film.

Balen Shah, the mayor of Kathmandu metropolis, stopped the screening of Hindi films from Monday, saying that he will not allow Hindi films to be screened until the confusing dialogue ‘Janaki is the daughter of India’ in ‘Adipurush’ is removed from the film. However, the producer and Film Censor Board, Nepal have also informed that this dialogue is not in the film.

On Thursday, the Patan High Court issued an interim order against Balen’s decision not to allow Hindi films to be screened in Kathmandu. Yet, Mayor Shah has said that he will not accept the court’s decision and will not allow the screening of ‘Adi Purush’ and Hindi films.

The Kathmandu Mayor commented that he does not obey the law and the court when it comes to the sovereignty and independence of the country.

The court called both parties on June 27 to discuss the issue relating to the banning of Hindi films.
