KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, during the inauguration of a new substation today, announced Nepal’s imminent signing of a long-term electricity trading agreement with India.
“The agreement is on the verge of being finalized in Kathmandu,” stated PM Dahal, revealing that Indian officials are preparing to visit Nepal for the signing. He emphasized the significance of his recent visit to India in Jestha, foreseeing a pivotal moment for bilateral electricity trade.
“Following the agreement, Nepal will export surplus electricity to India,” PM Dahal explained, citing the country’s earnings of Rs 15 billion from electricity exports to India during the last monsoon.
The Prime Minister outlined the government’s ambitious plan to make India the primary hub for Nepal’s electricity exports, aiming to export 10,000 megawatts over the next decade.
The Inaruwa substation, located in Bhokraha Narsingh rural municipality-4 of Sunsari district, stands as a crucial project for fortifying the power transmission and distribution system. As one of the largest substations in the country at 400-Kv, it plays a vital role in Nepal’s pursuit of becoming a significant player in the regional electricity market.
