Kathmandu shivers as temperature takes a chilling plunge

KATHMANDU: The cold has intensified across the country, including the Kathmandu Valley, as the mercury continues to drop.

Today, the minimum temperature in Kathmandu is 4.5 degrees Celsius, while the maximum reaches 19 degrees Celsius.

Over the past three to four days, Kathmandu has experienced a minimum temperature fluctuating between 4 to 5 degrees Celsius and a maximum ranging from 17 to 19 degrees Celsius.

The Meteorological Forecasting Division of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has issued a warning, urging people to take necessary precautions against the decreasing temperatures nationwide.

In Kathmandu, the extreme cold is particularly notable despite sunny days, with significant chill experienced during mornings and evenings.

Jumla recorded the lowest temperature at minus 2.8 degrees Celsius, while Jomsom reported minus 3.5 degrees Celsius, according to the Division.

The present Westerly wind has a partial impact on Nepal, resulting in partly cloudy to generally fair weather conditions.

Tonight, the hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces are expected to be partly to generally cloudy, while the rest of the provinces will experience partly cloudy to generally fair conditions.

Looking ahead to December 23, the weather forecast anticipates partly to generally cloudy conditions in the hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, with partly cloudy to mostly fair conditions in the remaining provinces.

There is a possibility of light rain in one or two places in the hilly regions of Sudurpaschim and Karnali provinces, as per the Division. Additionally, there is a chance of light snowfall in select high-hilly and mountainous areas of Koshi, Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces.
