UML holding Central Committee meeting today

KATHMANDU: A meeting of the CPN-UML’s Central Committee is taking place today on the eve of a “massive” demonstration organized by Yuwa Sangh, the party’s youth organization, in Kathmandu.

The Yuwa Sangh led by Mahesh Basnet is holding what it called a “massive demonstration” in Kathmandu on November 23 (tomorrow).

The UML is organizing the demonstration in response to a protest program announced by Durga Prasai.

The UML meeting is drawing heightened attention due to the anticipation surrounding party Chairman KP Oli’s presentation and the looming demonstration.

Prasai’s three-day demonstration, fortified with a 5,000-strong force to counter interference, is expected to add tension to the political landscape.

Despite the UML categorizing Wednesday’s meeting as routine and pre-planned, a senior leader acknowledged the possibility of discussing the November 23 demonstration during the proceedings.

UML Central Committee member Bishnu Rizal highlighted that the meeting would delve into the Madhyapahadi Lokmarg-focused campaign (min-hill), emphasizing social harmony and national unity promotion within the party.

Rijal said, “There will be a discussion about the preparation of the campaign for prosperity, which the party has launched from Jhulaghat to Chiwabhanjyang under the Madhyapahari Lokmarg.”

The meeting is expected to conclude today itself.
