NEPALGUNJ: Nine inmates kept in a child reform home in Banke have fled following a clash.

The juvenile inmates were kept in the child home named Jayandu Child Reform Home at Daduwa Rural Municipality-6 in Banke district, said police.

The birthplace of the fleeing children and how long they had been staying in the home have yet to be disclosed, informed Deputy Superintendent of Police Narayan Dangi.

According to him, police have been mobilized to search for them. “10 children were injured in the clash. One succumbed in the course of treatment,” he said. The person who died in the clash has been identified as Sulav KC of Kanchan Rural Municipality-4 in Rupandehi, he said.

Dangi said the deceased was kept in the home after he was convicted of abduction and rape charges. The prisoners have smashed window glasses and railings while the police have encircled the home in all four directions.

According to police, two motorcycles and a computer were damaged in the child reform home, and police uniforms were torched. The reform home has two blocks. Two groups of prisoners in the home are still exchanging words in anger.

Khagendra Sarung Magar of the reform home claimed that another group of prisoners attacked them while they were asleep. “They mercilessly beat us in the head and hands,” he said to media persons.

A joint team of Nepal Police and Armed Police Force has been patrolling the reform home as tension still continues. Out of the total 254 prisoners in the reform home, 165 are above 18 years of age.
