NC leader Koirala urges govt to address agitating teachers’ demands

KATHMANDU: Dr. Shekhar Koirala, a prominent leader of the Nepali Congress (NC), has stated that the demands put forth by the agitating teachers in Kathmandu over the past three days are fully in accordance with the constitution.

As an influential figure within the ruling party, Koirala has called upon the government to take the teachers’ demands seriously.

He emphasized that these demands are not only practical but also firmly grounded in legality and constitutionality.

Dr. Koirala underscored the role of quality education, starting from the early stages, in cultivating a skilled workforce.

He stated, “To nurture a competent workforce, it is imperative that we provide quality education from the primary levels.”

Commending the invaluable contribution of teachers in bolstering the education sector, Koirala expressed his desire to incorporate essential provisions in the Education Bill, thereby resolving the ongoing movement through consensus.

Expressing deep concern, Koirala lamented the unfortunate circumstance where teachers, who have played a significant role in the establishment of the Federal Democratic Republic, are compelled to shutter their schools and take to the streets to assert their rights.

Similarly, Koirala stressed the government’s responsibility in addressing such sensitive issues promptly and effectively.
