UML to refrain from attending President Paudel’s all-party meeting

KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML, the main opposition party, appears poised to abstain from attending the all-party meeting convened by President Ram Chandra Paudel, which aims to resolve the current impasse in Parliament.

According to sources within the party, the UML is inclined to withhold its participation in the meeting, citing President Paudel’s perceived “unnecessary activism” in parliamentary affairs.

A senior UML leader remarked that given Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’s’ ongoing discussions with various parties to break the deadlock in Parliament, there seems to be no compelling reason for the President to convene a meeting on the same matter.

“The Prime Minister already convened a meeting on Saturday, and it remains perplexing why the President has initiated a parallel meeting on the identical issue,” a UML leader said.

President Paudel has invited the prominent leaders of the national parties represented in Parliament to Shital Niwas, with the meeting scheduled for Tuesday morning.

The CPN-UML has been obstructing parliamentary proceedings, insisting on the establishment of a high-level inquiry committee to investigate the recent seizure of 60 kg of gold outside the airport.

Previously, President Paudel engaged in discussions with Speaker Devraj Ghimire and UML President KP Sharma Oli in a bid to break the deadlock in Parliament.
